Oh my goodness. This assignment just about did me in. A KML (Keyhold Markup Language) file (which was my undoing) was developed for Google Earth use and is a notation used to mark geographic images, textual discriptions, polygons, etc. Once I was able to figure out how to save as a KML file, I went to google earth and my map appeared. I'm really not sure how or why but it was there. I can see how a teacher might want to use this to do a virtual tour with their students of places they probably would never be able to visit.
