Literacy Autobiography

What are your earliest recollections of reading and writing?  I remember in elementary school reading the old primers, Dick and Jane and Spot.  I don't really remember doing much writing.

What are your earliest recollections of watching television? In our house I Love Lucy and western movies played all the time.

What are your earliest recollections of going to see a movie?  My earliest recollections of going to see a movie were Elvis Presley movies.  We lived on an air base and they played Elvis Presley movies all the time.

What are your earliest recollections of music?  My Mom loved the Sound of Music and Mary Poppins so we listed to the albums of those shows.

What are your earliest recollections of using a computer?  The first time I used a computer was in an office that I worked in.  It was a little tiny Mac and we couldn't figure out how to use the mouse.

Were you read to as a child?  My Mom was an English teacher so she was always reading and she read to us.

Can you recall reading for pleasure in elementary school? There was a little paper magazine for kids that came to our house and I remember reading those.

Can you recall writing for pleasure in elementary school?  I don't remember writing in elementary school for pleasure.

What was the first book you loved (couldn't put it down)?  Wuthering Heights and it's still my favorites.

Can you recall the first film or television show you watched over and over again?  Probably the Lone Ranger.  I had three brothers and one television set!

What pleasures or problems do you associate with early memories of reading and writing? I've always loved to read and never had problems with it.  I've always hated to write and really still do.

Is there a specific teacher (or several) who stands out in your memory as someone who had an impact (positivist/negative) on your reading and writing? Describe!  I had a ninth grade English teacher who made us write a paper everyday for a year.  He never gave us a topic and everybody got a "B" on every single paper.  I hated that class.

What are you currently reading? Writing?  I'm not writing except for class because I really don't like to write.  I just finished reading Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back.

What are you currently watching on T.V?  NCIS, The Office and American Idol

What was the last great movie you saw?  I haven't seen a really great movie in a long time.  I like comedys the best.

What is your favorite song right now?  My favorite song is Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.
