Textual Lineage

The following is a quote from Susan B. Anthony's speech when she had been charged for voting in a Presidential election, which she was not legally allowed to do.  Susan B. Anthony should be a hero and a role model to all women.

It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union. And we formed it, not to give the blessings of liberty, but to secure them; not to the half of ourselves and the half of our posterity, but to the whole people - women as well as men. And it is a downright mockery to talk to women of their enjoyment of the blessings of liberty while they are denied the use of the only means of securing them provided by this democratic-republican government - the ballot.

This poem by Robert Louis Stephenson probably seems silly to most people.  When we were kids my Dad was in the military.  We traveled back and forth from wherever we were stationed to WV, which was home.  My Dad always recited silly poems and songs for us to keep us entertained.  Every time I hear this poem, I think of my Dad.

Fifteen men on the Dead Man's Chest

These are some of the words to one of my favorite Rod Stewart songs.  It really doesn't hold any special meaning to me, but I really like it.
